I'm usually pretty grumpy so I went into this thinking whatever happens happens. If I blow my shit up, the trip is not ruined, we will just figure out how to keep going. It's amazing how many good experiences you can have when you open up to it and get on that higher frequency.
Tips: pack food, eating at restaurants is too pricey if you are a broke kid. Bring a good tool kit. Be safe, a couple times we got into situations that probably could have killed us. Thinking back I am so lucky and in another universe I might be dead and gone.
Mountains in West Virginia. Road work, traffic stopped. We were about 5th in line. The construction worker in charge of stopping traffic looked like he was signaling for us to come up to the front. I figured he wanted us up there because it was safer or idk? Well without even checking I whipped out of line and hopped to the front. Almost got bulldozed by a cement truck. Dude was signaling to the truck to come up. I had no idea. So yeah always check for stuff like that. I also blame the worker for making gestures that were misinterpreted by us, but ultimately it's my fault/life.
Good idea to have a plan for sleep. Have a few campsites in mind for each day. Stressful looking for a spot when you are tired and it is dark out.
Go with a buddy. It's more fun with a friend. You can watch each others back and help each other if one bike fails.
