You've got the money, and think to yourself "oh, that's a nice thing" and you buy it. but when you take a look around you, and your life is nothing but a series of collections of things that you will never use, or even really appreciate, you have no choice but to reexamine what you're doing with yourself, to whatever ends that may lead you.
I've already gotten rid of many books, all but my rarest periodicals, houseplants, hobbies, and furniture. I even gave away two flatscreen TV's. I've still got many books to offload, the knives, two netbooks, shittons of electronics nicnacs, and all of the art I've collected (I only collected originals)
it all just weighs me down, and as much as I regret having wasted my time, money, work and space on it, I feel having finally learned not to impulsively collect has been a positive I can take from it.
