If I was doing it by myself, on a property that was anything less than very well developed, i would of gone bankrupt and blown my head off.
If you don't have a bloody lot of the necessary skills, a decent safety net monetarily, and a lot of people to help you out, you will fail.
I know, homesteading is different from large scale beef enterprises. But there's a lot of cross over.
Go out and get some farming experience. Maybe find a homesteader and trade labour for accommodation and food.
It might save you a lot of money. It might even save your family the cost of a casket.
