Get good quality, quiet and comfortable camo, sambar are sneaky fucks and will spot you
At first concentrate on moving VERY slowly and reading the bush, better covering little ground well than a lot poorly/quickly, look through the trees not at the trees, look for straight lines, usually you will see their back more than anything else, it is a skill, you will learn over time but you need to look at the first few trips as practice sessions
Learn about wind direction and thermals
Hunt first and last light
Use google maps and contour maps to scout locations, they like gully heads, stags during the rut like high ground, try to find an area with a network of connected gullys and "hop" betwwen them, this is where scouting a location is critical in knowing the topography, you want to quietly hop into a gully and stop in cover and wait, never skyline yourselfnon a ridgeline, soud, smell carry and you will be highly visible
Stalk after rain or during a light drizzle
Quiet boot or shoes, i have used dunlop volleys at times, dont use work boots
Get a "safari sling" for quick shots and ease of carry, you will fall over and drop you rifle
If you re unfit go fishing instead
