>>1190719Srrs answer is that if you need tinder, you can sometimes split the wood and shave from the inside to get some nice, dry wood shavings. Never done it myself but /out/ has mentioned it a few times. Seems to make sense. I'd personally test it before I rely on it though.
You could also light the inside of the wood, especially if the outside is wet. Or you could use them to make a nice aesthetic looking fire if that's your thing.
But generally it's people over complicating something that's relatively simple because they think it makes them look more capable and "with it" to people who don't know much about the topic. Like the camping equivalent of the kid in high school who tried to slip in "quantum theory" into every conversation he can to seem more clever than he is.
