I'm tired of the modern world. I always have been. I want to go innawoods and never look back.
I want to homestead, and be as self sufficient as possible.
Anyone here living a simple life away from society? How do you do it? Where do I start? Just feed me any info you have.

the closest i know to that is a drug addict who sleeps in his car and steals shit from different stores every day and sells it to the arab mart in exhange for money and herbs.

I also know somebody who has worked in construction and ran a food truck for 20 years that is buying some land and trying to grow their own food/do solar power/well water. That's gonna cost them 100k though to live comfy.

I'd do my work online and then I'd do my chores and hunt for meat whenever I got the chance. That sounds like a perfect life.

The biggest issue is the initial investment. If I had 100k I would buy a cabin and never come back.

Would probably like the animals, but I don't want to grow my own grain.
I'd grow some veggies and fruit but I'd rather just buy my own grain once every so often.

Where the fuck is this? Land doesn't cost anywhere near that much. You can build a cabin for like 5-10k.

Snow valley... I would love looking at the snow covered landscape for 8 months of the year while I starve because you can't homestead in that climate and my back or my bank would be broken from clearing a couple acres of old growth forest.

I live in this state. You can grow enough food to get through the winter. Just be prepared to eat a lot of potatoes, radishes, carrots, etc. And youll want to hunt/Trap.

Fuck the pigs just do chickens. Feed is no joke and you don't want to start dedicating too many crops to livestock.
Plus laziness. Make a movable coop so you can cycle them over different parts of your garden. Have a wild herd also that you maintain for meat and new baby hens to become layers.

Read it. It's kind of dated but the guy basically did what you want to do and wrote about it.

You will either need money or good crafting skills, with having both being the best case.

my experience with maine was going to this really nice lake filled with wildlife and surrounded by uninhabited cabins, there was probably 2 dozen cabins and I was there with 12 of my friends and there were only 4 other people that we saw for a week, in June.

I don't know the number but have raised them and the cost of feed plus time invested makes it a little rough for what you get in the end. Table scraps go to chickens and they will need feed on top as well.

A pig can easily eat 10% of it's weight a day. A 40lb hog feed bag costs about 12 bucks at walmart. If you let 'm roam a bit, they also find critters in the soil.
Better find a place where they have wild hogs in the woods. Bullits are cheaper.
