Former special forces here. All I would take is a fire kit, a good knife, a fishing kit, water filter, .22 caliber takedown ruger 10/22 with 500 rds of ammo, rain poncho, A roll of heavy duty garbage bags, and extra wool underwear/socks. Extra jacket and extra pair of pants. With my skills I could survive a month or longer with just this gear

do you have cash to replace bulky items?

compression stuff sack might be a cheap buy for a potentially bulky sleeping bag

could get a ccf pad locally to sleep on

tarp and headbugnet instead of full tent

hard to say without more knowing more about what you have or where you're going

You can take guns on domestic flights if you're in law enforcement. This is why lots of people in places like LA where getting a CCW is impossible volunteer as reserve officers once a month. Carry rights, free training, a little excitement one night each month.

I'm comfy with this down round the 30F mark. Night can get to mid 20s and I'm ok, but a little chilly. I have a self inflating mat and 50f quilt that I add if the night are getting colder than 25.

That's pretty much everything. Most of the time I can get away without the cold weather additions. I only tend to bring those in the shoulder seasons. I've hiked a lot around Europe with this list. And it's pretty much what I am going to be taking in March for AT attempt. If it's summer than I take very little in the way of spare clothing but have to carry more water.

thanks for the full list, a great reference for some future updates to my own list.

I made the noob mistake of getting the revelation with the heavy shell and long/wide. while it's worked well for the last few years, I think I would have been fine with a smaller and lighter version.

every morning when I have to deflate my inflatable, I think I should go back to a CCF pad. but it's hard to give up the cushy padding.

Sounds like a super cozy bag though! I'm a big fan of layering sleep gear, as it's a little more versitile, at least for me as I am more likely to camp in warmer weather than <25F nights.

Yeah it's a pain, my self inflating is a great compromise, however, I love CCF mats and find them comfy enough. It's so relaxing to know your mat is indestructible.

This is a bad example because you can't carry most useful survival items onto a plane. Hell, they wouldn't even let you bring a water bottle on board these days.

But if we're talking purely size, just take:
Steel striker
Tarp
Knife
Axe head
Bowsaw blade
Stainless steel bottle

Everything else can be improvised. Maybe also take hooks and fishing line depending on location.
