Buy a 2 piece rod thats 1.6m / 1.8m.

Buy a 1000 / 4000 spinning reel and load it with 4kg / 9kg line.

You can get some cheap and decent stuff if you stick with Shimano, Okuma and Abu Garcia.

Get hooks (you can catch big fish with small hooks, but you cant catch small fish with big hooks), splitshots and some baits.

Thats about it.

So I fish a decent amount but usually just in this one pond (I know a guy), or in the ocean.

How do you scout for new fishing holes? Do you just go on google maps, find a decent sized piece of public land, look for lakes and ponds within walking distance of trails, and drive there to see if it's decent?

Get fishbrain, if you have the money to pay for premium people actually share the exact spot they caught the fish. Like literally the exact area. I’ve bought a couple weeks once and it was cool and worth it I just don’t have the time

Hard to tell you how to get back into it without knowing area, what your fishing for ect. For example, im in ontario and i fish about 6 different ways that all use different tackle.and rods for targeting different species at different times of the year

do some research and explore. Google maps is useful for finding places to park your car. Dams are almost always decent spots. DEC/DNR/whatever your state calls it will have info about public areas
