>>119719>how much am i missing out/ severely endangering myself I go day hiking with cotton clothes? I am in NY.Well obviously if you get soaked and can't dry/off start a fire you're fucked, try and get a cheapo nylon jacket at whatever big box stores are around you, and if you really want to be safe, a walmart $12 dry bag filled with spare socks shirt undies and what not will do you well, along with a tarp or trashbag to make shelter from rain.
see
>>119576that tarpis $10 at walmart, i have no time with it out in the field yet but you can get poly polypropelene tarps for like $6 and although bulky and not light weight they are very tough.
just be smart, and always have a back up plan
>>also, what kind of shoes should I wear if there is alot of water and mud, rain, sand, beach?
Well it depends if i know my feet are going to get wet while hiking i take my actual boots with me in a plastic bag inside my pack and put on some light weight running shoes or sandals, as long as they have good grip and won't retain actual water on the inside you should be fine, also socks socks socks
