I still go /out/ in the winter but I prefer fall by a lot. Still nice and chilly but the trees are super bright and colorful. There's an appeal to every season but in winter the appeal is mostly the solitude and quiet, not the views.

Late winter in Phoenix is great. Summer in Phoenix is also great. Nature *can* be comfy, but it's not meant to be. It's meant to be bested and endured. Nature is much prettier when you earned the sight of it. I generally dislike actually cold winters, but the novelty sets in when I experience the cold in a natural environment.

not the other guy but here in California they legit just block off sections of the highway as well as forest roads, makes alot of trailheads hard to get to

Just like I watch the weather for thunderstorms in the summer, I watch the weather for storms in the winter. If a storm is coming I will pack my shit up and gtfo. Winter is still the best /out/ season. The campground I go to has cell phone reception throughout so I have the luxury of having up to date weather, I turn my phone on once or twice a day to check, and check in with the wife. Usually go on a 10 day hunting trip once a year, preferably when it's below freezing so the ground isn't mush and the world is my freezer.

In high winds at cold temperatures (such as above treeline) there are minimum layering requirements that can cause you to sweat If you overexert. Slowing down in those situations or delayering in milder conditions is what I meant by stopping short. Don't be pissy for no reason.

Haven't really had to deal with burn bans in the Mid-Atlantic, I normally plan my trips around those types of things. It sucks that it's so prevalent though. I really want to do False Cape again this summer but I hate not being able to cook over a campfire, especially when I catch tasty fish.

I did my first Winter camping trip this weekend. It was pretty comfy even though it got very cold.
The second night wasn't as good because it started storming around 2AM even though a slight drizzle was predicted the last time I checked.
I almost had a McCandless moment because I woke up sick and the river I was camping on the far side of had risen like hell due to the rain. I had to take off everything but my pants and make a few trips across 35 degree water to be able to make it back to the car with all my gear. It was chilly but I felt pretty adventurous.

For much of Colorado, winter is indistinguishable from fall except a bit cooler and is far more forgiving and predictable than spring (aka sky rape season).

And ya, most people still won't go /out/ in winter except to ski. So pretty gud overall.

Wish we would get some fucking snow and an actual winter again tho. This warm dry winter shit is mostly new to most places experiencing it rn in Colorado. Things in nature they be a changing.
