Where 2 cop those bottles (unused). They are GOAT for carrying liquids. I used to buy coffee concentrate that came in such bottles but can find it no longer. So convenient.

Guineas are some of the best yard birds you can have. they will kill anything they can chase down. Most small mammals (mice, rats, squirrels) are killed and eaten quickly. Even reptiles are no match for them. If none of those are available they will decimate bugs in your yard. The eggs and flesh taste pretty good too.

I was thinking about Guinea fowl as well since I don't like the idea of using poisons except as a last resort.

I hear they are also great homestead birds because of how loud they are, so they can alert you to trespassers.

Any anons here know if chickens eat ticks as well?

chickens do eat ticks. The older heritage breeds do better at foraging than the modern egg layers. the downside is the heritage breeds do not produce as many eggs. if you like wild fowl and want chickens. get guineas. their meat has a wild flavor and the eggs are magnificent, beside their excellent foraging behavior.

Thanks for the tip, anon. Do Guinea fowl and chickens get along? I've heard different stories that they bully other poultry birds because of how Chad they are. It shouldn't be too big an issue if they do, I'll just have to keep them separated.

In my experience, guineas get along well with the heirloom breeds that I keep. They protect the rest of the brood. Occasional fighting but that just happens in all families. :D

hey sc/outs, I've just finished treating my /out gear and heading out tonight for a twelve hour night hike.
The directions on the product I bought say you can mix it with water or methylated spirits (denatured alchol). It is for treating dogs and horses.
I mixed it with the metho because it is quick drying that way. I normally end up in pretty tick prone areas when I'm /out, places where cattle and kangaroos hang /out.
I'll report back in tomorrow on the results.

It will probably only be 15km or so, stopp for a sleep about 01:00 for a few hours. Sleep system is just sleeping bag on yoga mat. Maybe put up a tarp, probably not. That is why I'm keen on the permethrin treatment, sleeping on the ground. The moon isn't too bright at the moment but enough light to move through open country. Prolly head out at around 2000hrs, care to join me?

so I did the overnighter, only 15km all up. 23kg of pack and webbing, 9kgs was water. No UL here... no ticks, permethrin worked great. Saw five foxes, some I ambushed on the trail. Saw four kangaroos and zero humans..

Boston Mountains fag here. Treated my pants in permethrin a few years back. By the end of one particularly humid day, I was able to scrape the tick carcasses off my pants with a Bowie knife. Almost like a wood shavings.

sorry anon, the batteries on the camera ran down from the night lapse beforemi wole up. The gopro doesn't do long range distant photos too well either. The roos are very good at hearing me coming so I only ever see them hopping away. I need to spend more time watching roo runs with a better camera/lens.

Cut it to about 5% with lotion. I had scabies from a shit hotel a few years back and got so paranoid that they'd come back after the pill that I said fuck it and used that shit 100% on my skin.
