Get a job where they can also provide you with staff accommodation. Certain areas have limited or plain too expensive available places to buy/rent, so some of the companies are prepared for take care of that. For 300/month I had my room in a house, everything included (internet was like 15 per month). l was wandering about east of the Rockies in Alberta, so for me that meant looking for employment in ski resorts, restaurants/bars, kitchens or hotels.
Your mileage may vary, but for me that's the damn cheapest rent I ever had to pay. The only downside was that I didn't get to choose my roommates. They were nice, but at times loud and sometimes rowdy. At least my job was literally a 30 seconds walk away outside. I felt quite lucky and blessed for this experience in general, and hope to do something similar in the future.
