>>1206358Hello, bow jig! Tactician/main trimmer depending on the boat. Sometimes I do both (J-70's) or one or the other.
These days most of my offshore stuff is on the Great Lakes, so Mackinacs, Queen's Cup, Trans Superior, Mills, shit like that. The inshore, or buoy stuff, is pretty varied. J-70's have been taking off, despite being POSs, and I did all three of the Davis Island races.
In my younger days I logged a lot of offshore miles. a couple Newport to Bermudas, Pineapple Cups (love that race), my first pro gig was the '98 Sydney to Hobart and I was still in high school - that was a no-shit scary ride.
I definitely do more inshore stuff overall. I like them both, but you don't usually need a good main trimmer for the offshore stuff so I am not really as in demand. Which is too bad, because now that I have some disposable income it's fun to make mini-vacations out of them and get free airfare and partial hotel stays. Plus, it's always great to bring a dock box with you on those trips.
Funny thing, over all the years and all the races, I never learned how to do the bow. I mean, I could get a sail down up there if I had to, but don't ask me to run the gear around or plug in a sail. It's going to be a shitshow.
