Size - more surface area gives more float, but is otherwise heavier and more awkward to walk in, most snowshoes have suggested sizes for your weight, which is decent but it depends a lot on the conditions you are out in. In loose powdery snow almost everything will feel too small, but the more compact the snow is the smaller shoes you can get away with
Traction - flat terrain needs nothing, steep terrain needs lots.
Durability - self explanatory, look for weak points in design, warranty, reviews, etc.
