I'm a coarse fisher, mostly lakes. Decided to take my gear on holiday to the coast. Sadly all the lakes where I'm at only allow fly fishing. I've asked all over the place, fly fishing only, fly fishing only, fly fishing only... Mon visage was not a happy one.

I decided to make the best of what I brought, so with all the lakes crossed off, I went to the beach to try some shore casting from the rocks. Never did it before. Tried a spinner I happened to have. Caught fuck all, unsurprisingly.

I know how to do lakes, and rivers at a push, but I have no clue when it comes to the sea. I don't want to go and buy loads of new stuff, so I want to try my luck with what I have, ie regular lake fishing gear (waggler floats, BB and SSG split shots, a triple hook trace for pike etc), and a few rubber lures, a couple of spoons, and the aforementioned spinner. Can those be made to work from the rocks or the beach. I might be able to find a pier at a push.
