>>122918Thanks for checking that out, that's pretty funny. Best bird dog I ever had was a Vizla/Lab mix. Both of her parents were hunt champions and a little magic happened when the bitch got out while in heat.
I will find a source for bison semen. I bet A&M has some and as much as I hate dealing with aggies I might have to make an exception in this case. I'm thinking Brahma or Charolais cross, think of it.
As to slaughtering and eating animals you raise, I sell mine at auction, I don't have the storage or time to deal with it. I have taken one to the local butcher and had him store most of it, but its a lot of money up front and he won't trade because everyone in town offers him the same thing. If it was a longhorn cross I wouldn't feel too bad, they are pretty stringy, even after finishing. My grandfather ruined the whole can't eat it thing though when he shot my pig Billy two days before Thanksgiving. I had raised that hog all summer long at his place outside of Comfort. When we got there the subject of whats for dinner came up and he said "pork chops and a venison roast." Next morning we went out to take care of the animals and Opa grabbed the .22 off the wall, walked up to Billy and shot him in the head. We then dressed and quartered him, cut out the loin for chops and he froze the rest in his deep freeze. Emotional attatchment for livestock died that day along with a little piece of my soul.
