A lot of schemes are going around to prevent homesteading.
Like taxing larger properties more than smaller ones. So a small lot with condos are preferred over a cabin on couple acres.
Arbitrary rules on well systems, sceptic systems. Either forcing you to pay to move them, or forcing you to pay certain people to do them.
Not allowing your own butchering, or butchering within quotas. Or not allowing you to sell them in a way that favours giant farms.
Or just straight up rezoning all or parts of your land.
These don't even have to be permanent. Just make it law for one year, destroy the homestead financially or even through arrests, then change it back. Or just threaten to change the law which results in the same outcomes.
I think there's laws here that there has to be perfect acces to your house (for fire trucks of course). So no gates? No snow? No mud? Probably all technicalities they could use to fine or arrest you.
And with shoe string budgets, and farming timetables, thats an execution.
