I'm looking for the quietest hunting boot. I typically do spot-and-stalk, and sometimes I'm travelling on logging roads. Currently I'm using a pair of irish setter boots, specifically the Vaprtrek pair. They're fucking noisy.

I'm trying to find a pair that has a super soft sole that almost absorbs the ground that it covers without making a shit ton of noise.

What does /out/ recommend?

These work fantastic.
I got a hold of some shag carpet and dyed it with logwood dye and hung it up in a tree outside to get rid of scent. Then made some strap on booties that turn my feet into acoustic black holes.

The way you move, your weight, how you walk affect much more though, I can walk pretty silently with a boot. Gel shoes like Asics can be very silent, but /out/ will destroy them fast enough so you get pissed.

I imagine crepe soles are super quiet. I wore some clarks desert boots on the trail couple of days ago and made zero crunching or any noise I can hear. Maybe those guys wearing pic related had the right idea all along?

Yeah, you're right. I should've said "most" instead of "none". Snapping needles was pretty common in moccasin sewing though, so they aren't exactly a bed of nails.

So in these photos I usually try to walk on the tuffs of grass that might be going down the centre of the road (like #2 there) or even along the edge of the road, but sometimes it's unavoidable to step on gravel or crunching on leaves.

ill shill for these. They are light and the bottoms are nice and flexible. reminds me of a sneaker with good ankle support. I wear mine everyday at work and on the trail and they last me about a year. if you wanted to get more extreme you would probably have to get some of the shoes that look like toe socks. I bet those would really let you tip toe quietly but idk about wearing those in the cold in deer season

Are you bow hunting? Idk where you are in the country, but when I need to do a close stalk, ill usually try and wait for the wind to pick up to get close. masks some of the inevitable pops and crackles. For me, spot and stalk is so rewarding because unless you are taking long shots with a rifle, your prey really has a good chance. They can hear better than you, smell better than you, maybe even see better than you and they know they surroundings better than you. Trying to come in their territory and sneak up on them was never going to be easy but that's why it's so fun. Your best bet is to use their environment against them and mask your approach with changes in wind and terrain. you can't except to never crack a twig or step on a dead leaf

I wear Salomon shoes and really love them. They were the best I ever bought and when they break down, I will buy Salomons again. They look pretty similar to the QUEST PRIME GTX but are of an older product linie it seems. The were more on the dark grey colour spectrum.

Get some cheap aqua socks, some 30# gorilla braid and a thick fuzzy pair of merino wool socks. Sow on the merino wool socks, you now have sockassins. Cozy, warm, quiet. Good camp shoes too.
