Help me /out/ guys

I tried making a coke can alcohol stove today and totally fubar'd it somehow. I had to immolate the can to get the alcohol hot enough to come out of the holes, and then it got so hot that the penny melted, and later the aluminum gave in too.

Can I get some tips on these? And can I seal the cans with JB Weld or do they get too hot for that?

The silvery surface on the can is the melted penny. I smeared it around for fun.

As you can see it looked like it was working normally for a while... But I think the penny melting is kind of a design flaw.

did you fold the ends of the top can and puncture jet holes below the top jet holes before inserting? I used blue rtv silicon. if its hot enough for thermostat use on cars it will work on these stoves. think its rated to 400 F. or something like that. been working for me anyway

I did not.

And aluminum melts at 1200° F, so that stuff isn't going to cut it.

The holes below the burner holes work really well. It has something to do with the vapor and pressure?
Anyway Mine (with the RTV Silicon) Is holding up well. the jets are blue and visible about 3/4 in above the can. so the can itself doesnt really get hot. all the heat is above the stove. I think i just got really lucky with this can. ( they are all different.)
Also i noticed your holes are too large. try a thumbtack.
Another important item to look at is the bottom has to be a certain size compared to the top. I.E. if the bottom is 1 in the top is 2. or if the bottom is 2 in the top is 3. ( not sure the exact ratio.) sorry Bro hope that helps
