Hey /out/,
How do you deal with ticks?
I live in CT, and there is a shitload. I went for a quick jog througha about 30 feet of not even knee high grass and had 10 on me. Is this because of my leg hair? Should I just wear pants at all times?

I live in northeast Missouri, and i get about 50 a day around June. It's no big deal, just check yourself everyday. I'd rather get bitten by 50 ticks than 1 misquito.

It doesn't need to be a thick coating, but it needs to cover every exposed part of your legs entirely.

id either wear long pants, or not jog in tall grass.

I worked for the park service for the past few summers and got used to wearing long, polyester, dark green pants all summer long on hikes and such. Now going out in 90+ heat in tan dickies seems like nothing.

1 - Take hold of tick as near to the skin as possible, using tweezers or any similar tool
2 - Slowly and gently pull it out

That. Is. It.

Don't burn it, don't twist it, don't put rubbing alcohol on it, don't do any of that.

Just slowly pull it out in a straight line. You need to give it time to loosen its grip, otherwise the head will come off and stay embedded in your skin.

Once the tick is gone, you can go ahead and disinfect the wound as usual.

Recovering from lyme disease here. Scary thing is I didn't even find a tick and haven't been innawoods yet this year. Thought I just had a fever from being out in the rain, but after a week it still didn't go away and suddenly I was covered in giant red circles.
