if you're going to hike up something really steep a stick for leverage will keep you going longer it's like a safety tool

Yes I understand why you would USE a walking sticc. but why would anyone BUY one? You can literally go out into the woods and find a sticc and use it. Its what I did for mine...

You don't need a backpack that can be run over with a tank, they're designed for the lowest common denominator of military infantry, often made in an incredibly short time to pass the rigourous tests of the military contractor. I don't understand the prepper/survivalist fetish with military issue gear, sure it's tough but you could make do with so much less and be just as comfortable, long lasting, multi-use and efficient. The same logic could be applied to the military gear that these autists apply to civilian or super lightweight gear - "why are you taking that canvas military bag? It's so weak, you should take a completely leather, concrete and steel bag, that'll last much longer".

Army kit is designed to carry heavier loads, too. I guess in a SHTF situation where most factors are indeterminable, reliability is the key factor in gear priority. You wouldn't want to strap an axe to a cuben fibre backpack.

Could be a number of reasons. Might help a mild injury, can use it to test the ground in front of you, can reach things with it, can hit things with it, will help you walk up hills easier, can scratch your back with it, the list goes on

I'm a beginner and I'd like to buy a reliable compass to learn and then use for few years. I live on the northern hemisphere and I don't see myself going South in next 10 years or so. Would a compass with a global needle be beneficial in any way for me?

I was considering Suunto M-3 G, Silva Ranger S. Also, why are Brunton's global needle compasses significantly cheaper than other brands, even in Europe?

So not to have two 1.5 meter non collapsible items in your kit.

fact: trekking poles help you traverse any terrain easier
fact: both poles need to be identical in length, weight and weight distribution so you can get a good sustained pace
fact: you use them to support your tarp/tent whatever when no sticks are found around
fact: a pair of light ones weight less then 300g and are worth every penny if you do more than a two day hikes.
The only people who don't understand why people buy 'walking sticks' are larper bushcrafters that do day hikes in milsurp and carry 3 guns.
