>>1210700/out/ shit is fairly cheap compared to lots of other hobbies as long as you aren’t climbing K2 innawinter.
To go fishing for bass and panfish, you can get out there for $40-$50 plus the cost of a license depending where you fish. Hiking is even cheaper, put on your shoes and go.
Fishing has gotten expensive for me, but still cheaper to have fun with it than my other hobbies. A $100 fishing rod and reel is good enough to keep you entertained for years. Another hobby, BMX riding, you have to spend at least $400-$500 on a bicycle that won’t fall apart on you after a summer of riding hard. And you can easily spend $1500-$2000 to set up this kid’s bicycle the way you want. Then when you least expect it, you land something and your $200 cranks break and you’re done until you get new ones. And music, that’s not cheap. To play the drums, you have to spend at least near $1000 to get a basic kit that doesn’t feel like a child’s toy. Musical instruments last if you take care of them, but you still need to replace skins from time to time and that can be a couple hundred and it’s always tempting to expand and spend close to $500 on a nice cymbal and stand.
Any hobby can get totally out of hand if you let it. But getting /out/ is basically free to start.
Just my 2¢.
