>>1224090>I am a fat fuck who going to start doing out to get out and exercise and shit. But I have a really limited budget. What is a cheap setup for camping and or hiking and getting my fat ass out of the door?Maybe skip the camping part for a start and just do day hikes. You probably wont have the stamina for long stuff when you start out.
>>1224209>Right now I am starting in my normal clothing, doc martins, and a stick I found. That seems like the right attitude. Just get out and get started!
If anything, I would invest in two things:
I don't know about doc martens, but a lot of "fashion" shoes (even a lot of work boots) have soles that seem like they'd be great for hiking (good profile, nice heels…) but then turn out to have absolutely shit rubber, turning even coarse but wet granite into a deathtrap and somehow dirt that should just need a profile also turns into soap under those magical shitsoles. So please be careful when you start out to see if you can trust your boots or not, and if not, replace them with something vibram.
>Will need to get some better pants, that and I am losing weight.I'd actually skip the new pants for a while, assuming you have some solid jeans and stick with the "short stuff only" advice to start out.
You probably already found the "cotton kills" statement somewhere, and this is quite sensible advice, but for day stuff, where civilisation is not more than 2 hours away or so, jeans are quite decent. I don't like being wet and cold, but I can deal with wet pants without issue.
Get some wool (expensive but great) or poly/fleece T-shirt and pullover, because (at least for me) this wet and cold does matter for the upper body, plus you'll likely sweat a lot there at the start and be miserable and wet even without a downpour in a cotton tee and hoodie.
