I like wearing old-style "frontier" clothing when I go hunting or /out/ (inb4 LARPer, I am and I don't care). For a while I've been using some reproduction WWII US Army gaiters for my boots, but they leak a little more than I'd like when crossing streams and stuff. So I'd like to make some puttees. My question is, are they supposed to be made of waxed canvas or what? I can't seem to find anything suggesting they're supposed to be, but I don't see how they would be waterproof/repellent otherwise.
