>>1225417From what I understand, the land is a layer of soil, then a shit ton of clay, which gets eroded pretty easily. Due to poorly planned sea defences built elsewhere in the 50's or so, the problem just gets magnified further along the coast where there are none. Those little pebble balls break off and roll down during bad weather. If they're dry for long enough, they set like concrete.
