Going hiking tomorrow. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne so if anyone's got tips for places to visit (using public transport/walking) let me know, otherwise I'll probably just head for the coast. Anyone else got plans for the weekend?

There are bits of Hadrian's Wall in Newcastle, but if you head out west towards Hexham you can follow it into the countryside. There's walking north or south from there too.

Both >>121868 & >>121897 make splendid suggestions. The North Pennines are my preferred destination for a days walking at the moment. Get a 46 to Consett then a 773 (ona a day @ 10:25) to Edmundbyers. From there it's a nice #15 mile walk to Cowshill with some nice detours to see remnants of the lead mining industry of the area.

Enjoy wherever you go.

very true, I've been here a year and I feel like I've been wasting it, got sucked into the trap of staying within the city limits, and sticking to routes I'm familiar with when I visit home

Just got back, ended up going to Housestead and doing a loop of the wall, thanks for the advice guys it was brilliant

I didn't spend much time at the fort itself but it was nice, the one at vindolanda looked brand new aswell and thanks man I'm planning on doing the cowhill walk metioned here >>121906 next, but i'll post again if I run out of ideas
