>>1226324i don't know if you mean avon,ny or avon,oh but it doesn't really matter (i'm not familiar with either areas) . There's a couple ways depending on your interest and willingness to meet new people.
Many places have race nights, like once a week or so in the evening, you can just show up with a friendly smile and ask random people on the docks that look like they are about to go out, you obviously have to be pretty sociable though.
There is also Learn to Sail Classes or Schools where you basically pay an instructor to take you out and teach you, its good 1 on 1 teaching and better suited for older people or anybody who's not very confident.
You can also Join a sailing club which often have a yearly membership fee but can provide access to lots of small dinghys and an overall nice environment.
And lastly you can always just go out and buy a boat, pay for a slip at a marina and learn to sail on your own boat, a person at the marina i work at bought a bayfield 25 last year, probably late 30s man with kids and just went for it, saw him out sailing several times so obviously he learned something good from it.
Sailing is an odd activity, there's a very close knit social circle of people in any given place, and it honestly helps to know other sailing people. There's a lot of ways to learn to sail so i'm sure i didn't mention every way
