>>1221885Imma sound like I shill for Gorka's. It's a really nice hiking suit if you can get it for under $100 or just around there. I got mine, a BARS gorka 3 for $70 usd which is about the same price as buying a set of bdu's, maybe even cheaper. I really like it and have taken mine into 25F winter storms and came out ok. It blocked the 20mph winds and kept me dry despite it being laden with snow. Just layer something like a fleece or wool sweater underneath and you'll be fine. It is not waterproof but it is very water resistant. Best things about it is that it looks cool and is very comfy and it's very durable. If it does get wet, if it's about 50F it'll dry out completely in about 5 hours or so, at least in my experience. Personally only improvement I wish it had were armpit zips and upper chest pockets.
>>1221918It's not that heavy, only if you compare it to one of those pack able jackets or really expensive arc'terx stuff.
>>1222103You mean that stuff that is super hot and makes you boil in your own sweat because it's not as breathable as advertised? Or do you mean that stuff that still won't protect you from the outer layer wetting out and still leaving you a soppy mess saying "buh buh muh waterproof membrane"? OR do you mean the stuff that once it wets out takes about a day to dry, maybe more, and you can't leave it anywhere near a heat source otherwise it would melt.
I still got gore-tex in my boots, but part of me kinda regrets it once I feel the swamp inside them at the end of a day.
