>>1228170Depends on your use. There are a plethora of good mid layers. My mid layer is either:
- thick wool sweater for activity in really cold temps (-40c to -15c)
=breathes fairly well, regulates temp well, takes a VERY long time to dry if wet, packs bulky
- Mountain Hardware Monkey Man fleece zip for heavier activity or slightly chilly temps (-15c to 5c)
=Breathes amazingly well, regulates temp decently, dries quick, packs decently
-light down jacket for light activity or sitting still.
=breathes fairly well, regulates temp decently, useless if wet, packs small.
My base layers are all wool and vary in thickness. My hardshell is un-insulated and has good venting options.
Anything above 5c I'll usually cut out the mid layer or just use a thick button down shirt over a light base layer. Hardshell I'll mostly only use in serious wind/precip, as one should.
