>>1230910Yes, I can recommend the Akto. It's the best solo tent I've ever had, but I would say the mesh inner is necessary if you camp in the summer. That bumps the cost up even more. We're now in the territory where you could buy 2 tents, one summer the other winter, for the same cost. I've had a few tents over the years, 3 Hillebergs, and would def. recommend them if you know what you like in terms of design/layout.
A freestanding tent of any brand would be a better choice if you camp a lot in the winter, or on beaches/sand and want easy setup. The drawback is weight and packsize. I used to be nervous about non-freestanding tents, but they are not very difficult to set up unless you are on bare rock, fresh powder, or sand. I camp in places where I can use stakes so it's never been a big deal for me. None of my tents are freestanding anymore.
