As a matter of fact, the fascist traditionalist, melancholic view of the past, also had them defending older architecture while rejecting the newer proposals of schools like the Bauhaus and Italian Futurism (easy to see in the nazi's ideal of Berlin).
Modern movement defended a deeply humanized design that could be seen as somewhat communistic, even if not entirely true.
The early Soviets even defended constructivism (a modern movement related design ideology), however it would later reject it.
