I'm diggin the Klean Kanteen/GSI mug setup. Now looking for a compatible wood stove that can nest inbetween the cup and the bottle. Any suggestions? Please no gas stoves. I hate the idea of having to rely on artificial fuel in a survival situation.

The point of a stove isn't to make fire easier it's to concentrate heat because a generic fire, even if built correctly won't concentrate heat well for boiling water (other than a rocket stove dug into the ground, but those take a lot of time).

But OP, really you just need to buy some fucking stainless sheet and make it yourself. You aren't going to find what you want online. Don't make it out of aluminum, don't make it out of mild, and don't use thin sheet. If you can't do this then wisperlight international is your survival solution.

Sure, but you know it's also the time it takes to boil water. Which is quantifiable and which is actually a good metric of caloric output of a heat source which can be a good metric of efficiency. In this case it is marketing but it's also a very real difference. Go up to 14k with a canister stove, a whitegas stove and try to melt snow (and for good measure build a fire with the non existent wood you had to find down at treeline).

I'll take whitegas every day but fuck me if I had to build a fire especially with a rock pile to do all my windbreaking.

I used to carry really heavy in the early 90s, all the kit was about being robust not being light. Fuck those early Granite Gear packs were awesome but they were heavy. I like light all day but consider that you either have to carry the water for that KK (in which case yeah it's heavy but the weight is water) or you have to carry a cooking system. Quick googling says it's 17oz of kit, the lightest jetboil without fuel is 12oz (no way to carry water). The lightest wood stove that REI sells is 9oz with no cup and no way to carry water.

Actually it's pretty light if all you want is to carry water and be able to boil. I hate hard walled bottles because of packing, especially if they are also not measurement bottles but to each their own.

I would recommend esbit tablets or something similar. They will light up for a couple minutes by themselves meaning they're great fire starters if you have to burn wet wood for your stove or you can boil a small pot of water off just 1 tab
