Canister stoves aren't very usable in low temperatures or high altitudes without losing tons of efficiency and fuel (unless its a remote cannister stove). Liquid fuel stoves are better for alpine conditions sub zero.

It's pretty much impossible. That is the main reason I use gas canisters.

Car camping I use Coleman stove. Backpacking I use snopeak titanium. Fuck the weather or the mountains.

Got one, good quality stove and well worth the $50. simmering is doable, but not great with thin walled pots. it is however better than many other stoves as the nozzle head is a bit bigger and stirring is much easier because the pot stand is very stable.

Fugg, guess I have to learn to simmer a whisperlite or just get a cheapo remote canister

GSI pinnacle 4 season. Whisperlight universal is a stove with adapters that are compatable with fuel threads for all over the world. Its also a heavier, bulkier stove for backpacking. If you are only planning on mountain climbing in NA, just get the regular whisperlite.

If you aren't a poor fag, don't intend to climb mountains, and camp mostly between March and November, you should buy a gas canister stove. The msr pocket rocket is a standard.
