as far as what im looking for (outside of an /out/ them obviously)
i like narrative nonfiction that is tightly framed in a way that it answers one question and where the setting itself is one of the catalysts. i want to learn "with" the writer. no open ended preach-fest and self ejaculation (pretty much the exact opposite of stuff like what "uncle ted" wrote).
for example some of my favorite nonfiction books are

the mirage man
billion dollar spy
