when I sleep in middle of no where woods, I sleep in front seat of truck ready to drive off at a moment noice instead of in the back of my campershell on a mattress next to a pile of food. thankfully most of my camping is urban or high traffic camp sites. bears tend to stay clear of high traffic camp sites, yes?

also are they more hungry/desperate when they wake up in spring or when they need to pack on food right before winter?

There are also many levels of park, and the rules vary.

>County Park
>State Park
>National Park
>National Recreation Area
>National Seashores & Lakeshores
>National Forest
>Wilderness Area
>Wilderness Study Area
>National Wildlife Refuge

As you get further down the list camping becomes more restricted but law enforcement also diminishes. If you do proper dispersion camping you'll never be bothered.
