What's good, sc/out/s?
So, I live in a forest in a house I found abandoned growin plants n killin shit n being a forest person. I've also traveled across most of north america by hitchhiking, buses, and freight trains and have lived out of a backpack for a couple years. I'm in the city with a hammock and internet and boredom. Any questions and whatnot?

More about me? What is there to tell...I'm female, never really went to school at all, decided when I was about 4 I wanted to live in the forest. Been working toward it for the last year. There is a group of us who are all young and living in the sameish area. I have two friends who live about 40 minutes away by boat and a friend who is literally across the channel from my bay.
We are off grid, but looking into getting a solar panel in the next couple weeks for two way radio, LEDs (because kerosene dont last forever), and another radio to tune into a channel that plays music 24 hours a day. We are also trying to find an old diesel pick up to convert to biofuel (we have a friend who makes it) as there are two of us and two big 100 lb+ dogs.
This is our first year, but yes- that's the plan. I do medicinal herbalism and I make a lot of tinctures and oils and whatnot. I would love to barter and sell some of that, but it's not top priority. Right now, we're about three weeks behind on our garden and I just want to go back home.

Here's a rundown of the location. So we have our own private bay (next couple of years we're hoping to get a sailboat, so that will be useful), three buildings (the main house being very small. just living room, kitchen, bedroom and two sheds) and a sauna. Yes, a sauna. Its on a small cliff overlooking the water. There are no roads, nor trails to the road and town is about 5 hours on foot. We use a gravity siphon water from a stream uphill that is dammed. We are semi reliant on civilization, so we have a stockpile of onions, garlic, potatoes, flour, sugar, oats, coffee, tea, creamer, etc (easier to buy than grow) We will starting to brew liquor in about a month, as the salmonberies are out. Hopefully if all goes to plan, we will have a blacksmithing forge set up either in the fall or in the spring. Mostly for fun. We both know how to blacksmith and cast metals and stuff. We're still getting on our feet, but by next year we will have pretty much everything set up

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I am in the city waiting for my boyfriend and his dog to come from out east. They should be here in about five days, give or take. There is no guarantee with trains, yknow? I've been working, but it's mostly odd jobs and selling things I make. He has $600 or so in his pocket for the house, so that'll be great. I've managed to get some more tools, a new axe, a two person kayak, plastic sheeting and get started on the seedlings.

Here is a shot of a part of Desolation Sound. Apparently when Captain Vancouver came to BC, he saw this area and said it was the most miserable place he'd ever been. Of course it was winter and rainy, but I guess the name stuck.
Anyway, if no one is interested I'ma go. but hopefully you guys get something out of this- that its totally possible to do whatever you want. Especially live in the forest. if two street kids can do it, SO CAN YOU HOMIE.

Are you gonna be just innawoods? Do you plan on living in a tent or making a structure? If you are doing the latter, I can find some useful pdfs for ya. If you are just gonna use a tent. I'd say skip the tent (depending on climate) and go for a hanging misquito net and two tarps. one underneath you and one over you. paracord is cheap and really good to carry around and it can save your ass. Building a semi permanent structure will be good/pass time. You will go kind of loopy after a while. I recommend talking to yourself. It's how my friend kept sane while he was alone for months up north growing pot. But yeah, what kind of tips/resources are you looking for?

How about food storage/hunting/gathering tips? I don't want to be eating MRE's or anything else thats going to be either equally shitty or expensive.
We'll only be a few miles outside of town, but food storage seems to be the biggest issue after making grocery store runs

if I were you, I would probably make a little structure by lashing saplings together and making a simple but largeish brush shelter. However, this means you will have bugs and all that in your house, whereas if you opt for the tarp/misquito net method its not as organic but it is cleaner, especially if you are working.

wildwoodsurvival is, in general, a good website that you should browse. If there are only black bears in the area, throwing all your food in a pack and hanging it from a tree should be good enough. I would bring base supplies like flour, sugar, tea, etc. Eggs are really good because they can last for a while as long you dont leave them in direct sun. do some research on your area, find out what kinda berries grow and various plants. If there is a local market for herbs or wildcrafted plants in general, i would suggest talking to them to see if they would buy stuff you've found in the woods. Sometimes people can be kinda sketchy about that, but its worth a shot.

There are various ways to make this bread, but if you just use an artisan bread recipe and then once the dough rises, roll it out and fry it in oil on the pan over the fire- it'll be fine. you can also use baking powder and stuff instead of yeast. do some research. also when you buy tinned food, keep the cans because you can reuse them as cups. like when i travel, i buy a tin of soup, which i'll just put directly in the fire and then after i eats it, i keep it and use it for coffee or tea for days. you need a lot less than MEC/REC will tell you do. a good knife, good tarp, the misquito net, paracord, a book, and some printed up information if its not in your head. :)
