Milsurp often looks nice and won't break, but it's reinforced so a tank can drive over it, which you will never need. There's milsurp available that you couldn't wear out in a lifetime of use, but that's just silly - what the fuck are you doing that would shred your gear in the same way that equipment necessary for a war gets used? Also, most of it is overdesigned, using fairly cheap materials, with a "one size fits all" mentality where "one size fits none", are designed in a very short timescale after being comissioned by people who never have to actually use it innawoods, made to pass ridiculous mechanical tests (like the straps being weighted with 200kg repeatedly) that you'll never need, and they're usually far heavier than they need to be since most militaries hate their infantry
>TL;DRThere's a reason military men swap out their issued stuff with civilian gear, the civilian market is much more advanced with a lot more thought and money gone into development. It's the difference between buying a modern car and buying a 1940s jeep, the jeep looks cool, is bombproof, but is far too heavy and finnicky and has none of the features and advantages of a modern vehicle
