How does /out/ feel about singing/making music on the trails? My hiking group used to always sing A Capela while hiking and no one ever complained to us, but I want to know if that's generally considered rude or disrespectful

It would be annoying and selfish if you continued to do it after you realized there were people were around, I think. Singing doesn’t carry too far in most places though, so no real harm in it. That being said I sing when I walk down the street, but that’s a dominance thing with the junkies and an /in/ topic.

As long as you're not singing something rude or deliberately singing poorly and loudly it's fine.
Lots of scout troops, volksmarchers, etc sing trail songs. Just sing at or around normal speaking volume.

My hiking group sings too and nobody's ever complained. It's just me and three others at speaking volume usually so we're probably not that loud, and if they aren't interested in speaking up I'm not interested in their opinion, so I guess it's fine.

My grandparents were big volksmarchers (as well as amateur naturalists/geologists), they had all kinds of pins, patches and ribbons from events they went to.
