GPS tracker or whever it's called.
Has any of you ever used some kind of GPS tracker, that you can just keep and forget about for like a week or so, than connect to PC back home, and see your trail?

Ah, my bad - I didn't mean something that woupd SEND signal of my location. I ment something that would record it for days on one charge, so I can cheek the trail when I get home.

Many, many years ago, before smartphones, I saw someone with something like this.
Also, he told me, that he has software for it on his PC, that will later synchronize the photos taken on digital camera with the map. Kinda like Google Maps lets you do it now.

Never had a problem, using my phone, is good for days at a time you just need to set it to record every 180-500s and stop searching for satellites after 30s. You will miss some points in the valleys but I have kept my phone going for 9 days with gps logging and using the screen for gps maps every once in a while. Also turn the thing off at night.

What kind of a phoje have you got? Or do you carry a car battery with you. :-)
Still, I'd like something that will safely work for week +, and the phone is used for many other things.

If you have an android phone get GeoPaparazzi2. It makes trackmarks while running in the background. Shut off everything but android location services to maximize battery life.

That's exactly why it lasts so long. It is used only in emergency or if my paper map isn't cutting it.. 9 days was with my old phone, just upgraded to the zenphone max 5000mAh battery should last more than a week even with light use.. Have gotten 14 days before (not camping).

Hm, this is the closest thing to what I remember. But it's operation time is only 30h. Still, it's 9 years old.I'll keep googling.

Than I would just buy previously mentioned gps tracker that sends pos. via gsm network.
I look for a tool that only has a reciever with record possition option, it should require a lot less energy, thus be able to work for long periods of time.
