"The more you know, the less you carry" applies in this case. The more experience you have, the smaller your knife gets.
1/4'' thick is a joke, and a total meme straight out of the 1980s.
1/8'' thick is all you need to have a knife that's indestructible through any normal use. Unless we are talking a 3/8'' thick, 16'' kukri, there is absolutely no need to have a knife thicker than 1/8''.
Heck - my main edc knife is under 3/32'' thick (0.075'' to be precise).
Think about it. Finnish puukko knives, that have been in use for centuries, are usually around 3mm thick.
Pic related is somwhere between 4 and 5mm thick at the spine, but it's a rather peculiar knife - partial tang and glued into the handle. And it's used by people living in Siberia. Not some chill place like Alaska, or Wyoming, but mother effing Siberia.
you really, REALLY don't need a super thick blade with terrible geometry, just so it can be "uber-indestructible". Check out Mors' videos on survival knives. See any BK2-sized monsters? His definition of an "indestructible prybar" is no more than 1/8'' thick.
