Let's see your catches from this fine long weekend, /out/.

They weren't biting much today on the LA River, but I got this carp on sweetcorn after a few hours. Decent size, maybe 18", but he fought like a devil and I hoped he'd be bigger.

fellow LA fag here

do u have a fishing license? its almost 50 bucks with all the stamps and crap. i want to go pier fishing which is free but driving to the beach isnt exactly cheap. tell me more about this. i have fishing gear but not ready to buy a fishing license yet...

That's right, the LA River. I went back there again today and I got 4 carp. I met a dude with his kids who had never gone fishing before, and I showed him the basics and shared some tackle. It was a good time.

I know it's not exactly the Gallatin, but it's convenient and there are fish there. I do catch-and-release, so I'm not worried about all poisons the carp probably pick up while living in a glorified storm drain.

Yeah, I have a license. My ID is out of state, though, so I truly got fucked - over $100. As for stamps, you don't need any to go after carp.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about the license. I've only been asked to show one twice in two decades of fishing. I also wouldn't expect fish and game officers to bother with the LA River. There was just a local news report about fishing and kayaking there, though, so they might prowl around for the next week or two hoping to ding some newbies.

Well if you have a license then there are plenty of free parks that you can fish from with better water quality. There's legg lake in el monte, ghetto area and i think people don't take fish from there to eat either because the water isn't exactly clean. 100 bucks is crazy for just one year of fishing. Unless I go at least one weekend every month, I don't think even 50 bucks is worth it.

I'm not old or mexican either. Maybe getting old though. Asian that just turned 30. I deal with mexicans well, there are some bad ones --- having worked in el monte and living near la puente...lots of gangs and killings. but i stay strapped as a /k/ommando. You don't have to fit in, you just have to do your own thing.

Nice carp I caught a few days ago, was ~24 inches or so I believe. Give or take a few

Fought one before that for about ~45 minutes before it wrapped itself around a log and the line snapped. Got so fucking pissed

Decent sheephead. First one I've ever caught, though I know they get much much bigger than that. Me and my dad were fishing were walleye opening day and he pulled one out that was ~30 inches

Just for the hell of it, a decent sucker. They're alright to catch but I'm not a fan of catching them because they smell so bad and I always have a hard time getting the hook out of their lips.

I caught this last weekend. This was my first time fishing in over 20 years. I was a small child at the time.
I stuffed this sucker with Garlic, lemon, butter, and broccoli. Eating something you had caught and prepared had never tasted so good.

Now how do I deal with all the little bones?

Caught about a dozen speckled trout in a river 10 mins away from my house but only kept these two.

The bottom one had a hole in its cheek from another fisherman.

I think those are lake trout though... Speckled=red, white and silver. Lake=black, green, yellow and silver.

Caught the largest lake/brown trout (not quite sure about the English name) I've landed on a fly rod last week. It was in the middle of some semi-rapids and I was upstream so it managed to put up quite the fight.

Around here speckled trout are brook trout, which look like lake trout, but smaller and with square tails.

It's a brown trout.

Lake trout have forked tails and lightly coloured spots all over their bodies.

Brown trout have flat tails, and dark coloured spots, but few to none on their tails.
