Anyone know of any good DIY traps with an alarm system?

Basically I want to trap a rabbit, and also have its movement sound some kind of bell that is audible from my living quarters.

Funnel it into a rat trap. Tie it to a bell with monofilament. Or go on FTP and buy some proper 220s.

actually I gave this a second thought:

I don't want the sound to disturb people who live around me.

I think the only way to remedy this is by putting some sort of walkie talkie outside, covered from the elements.

ofc that's going to be energy-heavy, so I think I need to find some "smart" talkie that only powers on and transmits when there's actual noise--they already have voice recorders like this so I'm sure it must exist.

I'll look into rasPi and arduino, but it seems like the simplest solution is anything that transmits audio from there to here.

an email would necessitate checking my email, the audio solution only requires that I literally exist

just check it once a day. If you have the standard cage trap it will be fine and rabbits don't die if they're stuck in a cage for 24 hours (as long as not in direct sunlight)

I have a cheap alarm on an old barn with no electric
Pic semi related.
Solar charger on the car battery
Positive lead attached to a cloths pin
Place a card in the cloths pin
Trip wire from the barn door to the card.
When thief opens the door the card is pulled from the cloths pin, completing the circuit
The horn sounds, the thief runs off.
You just have to hook the wire to the live trap.

You could use a battery-powered Raspberry Pi with a video camera to monitor the trap and to signal you over Bluetooth to your Smart Watch when something gets caught. Bonus points if you use image recognition to determine whether it's a rabbit, possum, skunk, cat, or other.

Oh, in that case, use the RasPi to trigger the deployment of a tent over the trap, and then to fill the tent with nitrogen. The rabbit will peacefully asphyxiate without struggling in under three minutes.

So quick question, why dont you stake out with a pellet gun and smoke one with a hit to the head? I mean, if youre willing to buy traps and other supplies why not just pick up a pellet gun? That way you can drop squirrels, rabbits and other tasty garden pests?

Set up a dead fall trap to a RPi so when it's triggered it will simultaneously send you an email, text, and call so that you don't miss the notification. Alternatively if you're doing the cage trap, an Arduino and RPi combo will allow you to monitor the vitals of the rabbit and the conditions of the cage, i.e. temperature, humidity, etc. Then this will give you an idea of how the rabbit is reacting to the cage (stress levels). It's a common trapping method with a modern twist.
