Fire season is almost here again and being from a country highly affected by it I would like to know how does states like California or Australia, for example, that suffer from the same ill fate deal with prevention?
Last year there were triple digits fatalities due to firea here so this year the government went full blown authoritarian in the way to forcing land owners to clean their properties from brush and other fuels. The results are quite agonizing, entire patches of forest being cut down in the name of safety when in reality is just another way to profit from disasters. At the same time laws that would actually punish criminals who have a boner for setting fires have not being set in place because that is somehow not a popular and tolerant thing to do to "mentally ill people".
