Haven't own these abominations in decades. Cotton gets damp, sticks to skin, gets skanky, cold. I can't wear jeans or cotton t-shirts unless I want to freeze to death. Cotton socks are guaranteed blister-makers. I won't buy a pair of socks if there is so much as one percent cotton in it.
Where I live the weather is highly unpredictable so I never wear cotton for inna woods activities. Actually I am not replacing any cotton that wears out. The day might start out warm, then get overcast and rain later on. I always use some sort of wool or synthetic breathable, moisture-wicking fabric, even in summer. Nylon, polyester, wool, etc. The only drawback is I can't get too close to campfires, because little embers put holes in some of this stuff.
