Does anyone know how easy it is to become a park ranger (specifically in Canada) as an 18 yo fresh out of highschool?

It seems like it'd be a great way to experience more of the outdoors while also making money, if anyone has any info about the job or similar /out/ jobs please tell us about it

Not really. Unless your dad or someone super close can get you in. Or they send you to some super remote shithole. Promised 3 meals a day and only get two.

Piggybacking on your question here:
22 and about to finish /out/ related BS degree, what would be some interesting places in the US or Canada I could work seasonally before I go back for more school? Trail maintenance, tree planting, ecology field tech, that kind of thing. Volunteer basis is fine as long as they'll house and feed me.

If you're not a beta male basedboy, do labour for a tree care company.If you get with a good private one you can do a large variety of things. I worked for one for two years and got to work in Provincial park forests, was flown out to remote areas in helicopters, got to do tree large amounts of planting in provincial parks and as well as working in municipal watersheds not open to the public. I got to work in many pristine landscapes. It was hard work, but worth being outdoors everday.

Keep in mind, most tree care companies only work in residential areas and pruning near power lines. The one I worked for took care of work in provincial parks, regional parks and watersheds. I built good relationships with many parks employees we worked for over those 2 years, and it gave me an edge with getting employed with them.

I've got a buddy that goes planting every year. He says the criteria for that job is hating your life and not being able to do anything else that makes money.

look into a conservation corps or something. if you find the right program can give you opportunities to work in some cool /out/ places as well as make connections with professionals in the field. plenty of different programs, find one that suits your interests

I once saw a job posting for a tree cutter deep in the Portugese woodlands working for some toiler paper company.

The pay was shit, and you weren't permitted to use a chainsaw or any powertools.
All you had was a diesel pickup truck, an axe, and few acres to cut down.

I got a /out/ job on a farm and honestly even though it was menial work, so I couldn't expect much, it was fucking hell. Shitty payment and hard, back breaking labor all day. Fuck it, stay in school and find some white colar job and wage slave for a couple years and then quit, buy land and enjoy /out/ at its fullness.

Continuing off of OPs question here:

Any help on getting into being a forest ranger in NY? I’m planning on going to ESF, or if that doesn’t work out, NAU/ASU to study forestry, or wild life biology. I want to work as a park ranger tho, prolly up in the Adirondacks. Is it super hard to get into?

Foresters have an easier time of it in general than wildlife guys. Make sure you do research and/or get experience in the summers and you could land a permanent pretty quick as a foresters. Rangers are law enforcement so a law enforcement degree/background is a better route if that's what you want to do.

basic shuttles flying the bosses around 120 - 300 an hour. depends on a lot of variables though.
If you own and pay your own insurance and bond then it's around 600 - 1150 per hour also depending on the job. ie tours, island hopping, fish spotting, shuttle service, mail drops, forestry, materials handling ect...
I work in this industry.

One day I'd like to go full /cabininthewoods/ and to that end I've been doing reading on just about everything from farming and permaculture to hunting and conservationism. I need some practical experience but I've no idea what sort of job would allow me to get hands-on experience with those sorts of things.
By trade I'm a buildings contractor so I'm no stranger to early starts or heavy work loads.
