>>1263105Depends on the animal, caliber of rifle and a whole bunch of factors. First off as you've said it's more difficult. The head is a smaller target. In addition, the skull is far thicker than aiming lungs/heart. If you're using a smaller caliber, there's a decent chance your rifle will actually ricochet off of the skull or only partially penetrate, in which case you've wounded the animal but haven't killed it by any stretch. Now you've gotta track this animal for the better part of a day (if you don't lose it entirely) so you can finish it off because one of the core rules of hunting is that you never leave a wounded animal alive.
Basically it's a lot more hassle, difficulty and possibly danger for the sake of a flashy and maybe slightly quicker kill (that'll also ruin being able to mount the head as a trophy if you're into that)
It's just not worth it.
