It's a doable daytrip. A buddy and I drove (for a few hours) to get to it, hiked it then drove back.
There's quite a bit of elevation, ups and downs etc which drains your legs pretty fast. Or atleast mine.
From where we started, which I guess is the main parking area and closest to Trolltunga, the first part was a fairly steep and muddy climb but there was also some weird kind of wooden stairway you could walk up if I recall.
Nice scenery on the way. The fjord really was turquoise when we were there. Water is np, drink from brooks on the way.
We saw people frollicking about in skinnyjeans and sneakers so it's not that hardcore.
