Hello fellow /out/ists, thirdworldshitholer here, is there any equivalent of a "scouting" course for adult folks in Canada/USA ?

I would like to have /out/ skills when i immigrate in the future and , since i didn't have the opportunity to have a comfy boy scout experience, i would like to know of there's similar stuff for already young adults.

Thats nice, but i believe i wont make it to USA or CAN before at least 24. Is there at least any kind of "camp crash course" for actual grownups ?

I'm not sure. There might be, depending on where you move, but another option would be to take a youth protection course and become scout leader.

The best course would be just to do camping at home. You have internet so you could probably look up videos and learn through that. It's not very hard, just go outside.

REI has pretty regular classes and trips for adults and they are really well priced. there are also under 30 social groups in a lot of cities.

if you have some dough there is NOLS, and outward bound. you can also do big trips through an outfitter.

Scouts learn pretty much the basics of interacting with nature and handling tools.
So if you have made it trough basic first aid, can handle a knife without cutting yourself, can identify basic local animals/plants, do basic sailor knots, know how to start different kinds of controlled fires and how to put up your tenth you're pretty much 99% there.
Anything else is experience so just go /out/ with ok tier equipment and do it. Once you hit the celling there're countless adult outdoors classes for anything you want to learn.

So bit of shilling for venturing here, Im on some national boards for the program. From my experience its a good way to get in the scouting program, you wont be able to do rank advancement at 21+ but venturing is designed in a way that both youth and adults can do the activities. Think of it as open source boyscouting.
