How do I into this hobby? I'm taking the classes at the local indoor climbing wall, but I want to go /out/ with it. I want to learn how to trad. I'm a 25yo lamefriends.

Where do I find a group willing to take in someone as green as me?

as to your question, do you have any outdoor climbing around you? does your gym organize trips there? have you tried making friends with other people at the gym? have you tried mountain project?

In my experience it's a pretty positive and inclusive community, so you shouldn't stress about being too forward.

Keep going to your gym and try talking to people/making friends (I'm shy too, but I pushed myself to talk to them). Find people of similar skill levels and ask them when they go to them gym and start climbing with them more regularly (there was a group chat at my gym where people posted when they're going). Once you're on friendly terms with them ask them if they ever go to real walls then see if you can get in on a trip.

Alternatively you could ask your couch/trainer at the gym if they know of people/groups at your skill level that go outdoor climbing.

I'm shy to. Just talk beta when there is a boulder problem, or a tricky move someone can't do try it yourself and share ideas. Not only will it help you make social time at the gym, but it will also improve your beta reading and technique.

Yeah rock climbers are super nice and usually more than willing to help others get into the hobby. I’m just getting into it and everyone I’ve met has been generous. It’s a fun hobby and a great workout. I’m hoping to get to Kentucky this year to climb on some real rocks.
