Is the homestead life achievable as a virgin male with a job in the city?

Everyone I know with a farm is a family or a couple. I don't see how I could possibly have a farm by myself especially since I have a job in the city and also military reservist obligations which take me out of the country for weeks at a time. I feel like all I can do is wwoof occasionally maybe I'll get lucky and some nice farming family will adopt me.
